Independence Day
Enjoy the day. God bless America.

"Let no vandalism of avarice or neglect, no ravages of time testify to the present or to the coming generations that we have forgotten as a people the cost of a free and undivided republic." -- General Logan - May 5, 1868
Yes, I know I've been slacking. Just a bit busy at work but I'll be back posting this weekend. I have a few things on the burner I'd like to get up here.

I hope you have a wonderful Easter. Enjoy the family you are with and think about those you can't be with.
This is the day the Lord has made, Alleluia. Let us be glad and rejoice in it, Alleluia.
But you may want to put down that beer. As all you good Catholics know, this is Holy Week, and we really shouldn't be partying. Though I have a feeling the bars will be full anyway.
I've decided to put a section on the right called Top Stories. This will be for links to news items that catch my eye during the day but I either haven't the time to create a new posting or I feel the link itself is enough.
I hope this will allow me to keep up with what may be going on during the day even when I am pressed for time. And please feel free to send in any links that you find interesting.
I am going to take a break for a few days, as my wife is having surgery Monday. She'll be in the hospital for a couple of days and then in bed for a few more so I don't know when I'll be back to blogging.
I'll leave this as an open thread if anyone wants to post anything of interest in the meantime.
See you soon.

Have a happy and safe New Year celebration.
Merry Christmas to you. I wish you all a wonderful holiday. God bless!

I saw the movie Smoke, when it was first released in 1995. It remains one of my favorite films centering around my home, Brooklyn.
While sick in bed last week, one of the few bright spots was having to opportunity to watch this again on television. It was a treat, since I probably haven't seen it in 10 years.
Maybe it was the shots of NyQuil or an overdose of tea, but after all these years, I enjoyed it a little bit more.
The end of the movie has a wonderful monologue by Harvey Keitel based on a short story by the movie's author Paul Auster.
Listen to Paul Auster read his story at this link, then take a look at a clip from the movie below.
I've been sick for four days and I have no idea what the heck is going on. It has been a mix of medicine induced comas and horrible daytime television.
I hope to be back soon.
In remembrance, The Pearl Harbor Attack, December 7, 1941.
December 5 is Repeal Day.
|
On December 5th, 1933, Utah, the final state needed for a three quarters majority, ratified the 21st Amendment, repealing Prohibition and restoring the American right to a celebratory drink. While the amendment still allowed for state and local levels of Prohibition, by 1966 there were no state laws banning alcohol. |
Celebrate. Have a drink!
Outside, it is quiet. Uncommon for my neighborhood, but not so on a holiday. When I woke up I looked out my front window and the only pedestrians were the leaves strolling across the street. Though I know a few hundred thousand people are watching a parade several miles from me, I feel as if my city is on pause. And for a short time, people can stand still and watch instead of buzzing around. It lends itself to reflection.
What words can express the feelings you have when you look around and realize everyone and everything you are surrounded by is filled with love?
I am thankful for my wife.
I am thankful for my family and friends.
I am thankful for living in a country protected by the finest men and women on the planet.
I am thankful to God.
Later, when I'm stuffed with food and watching football, I will give thanks again, for being able to do such things with the people I love.
Thanksgiving
For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food,
For love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)
My grandfather, my father and my closest friend are veterans. Though I am not, I try to understand the sacrifices they and all veterans have made for our country.
My words are like breath on a cold day, visible only for a moment, a scattered memory. I hope my actions last longer, and truly honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
God bless you all.

Been very busy at home and at work so I haven't been able to post as regularly as I like. Hope to get back to it in the next few days.
Enjoy the day. God bless America.

For those of you who celebrate the holiday, have a wonderful Easter. I'll be taking the weekend off to be with family so I'll see you on Monday. And as always, thank you for stopping by!
So much for me taking a few days off from posting! Well, I'd once again like to wish all of you a very merry Christmas and a heartfelt thanks for stopping by to read once in a while.
I know there are many other blogs to read and free time is at a premium these days, so I want you to know it means a lot to me when you do stop by.

I'd like to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and wonderful holiday season. You've made my work here fun and exciting and I hope to continue for a long time. I'm going to take a few days off for the holiday but that's not to say I won't be able to resist posting about something that comes up.
I'll be spending time with family and friends over the weekend and I'm really looking forward to it. I'd like to know what you guys are doing for the holidays. Spending time with your friends and family? Or just relaxing on your own? Leave a comment.

I'd like to introduce a new author to The Broken Chair, Zorroaster. He has agreed to post from time to time on an array of topics. His features will be titled Random Thoughts on Current Controversies. I hope you enjoy the added content.
I'll be taking the next couple of days off, so enjoy your weekend and I'll see you back here Tuesday. Be well.
The greatest thing about this here world wide web, is connecting with people I would never have connected with otherwise.
Reading Michelle Malkin's site I discovered a wonderful and intelligent woman, Karol, a guest blogger for Michelle and author of her own site Alarming News. I encourage you to take a look.
It is these such encounters that make this fun, exciting and completely worth the effort.
If you're here because of Karol's mention of me, then welcome, have a look around and feel free to contact me.
You might have seen this email making the rounds but I thought it was worth posting.

The USPS has a program for military family members and friends to supply them with packaging materials to send packages to troops overseas. If you call 1-800-610-8734 and select option # 1, Ask them for the "Military pack" they will send you boxes, tape, packaging materials and labels. They will also give you an I.D. number so if your supply runs low, you just call them up and they'll send you more supplies. The materials take about four to ten days to receive. |
